📸 A picture in a bar

Look at this photo. Do you know why it’s precious to me? Its whole story feels like the distilled essence of my shift into an IDGAF mindset.

First, I’m at Bortodór — a wine bar I really love. But this time I didn’t come just to drink wine: I was discussing a project with the owners, something they might need help with. And for the first time in all the time I’ve been planning projects, I actually managed to put together some kind of budget. Now it’s just a matter of starting sales. I’m still far from launching anything, I can still screw this up three hundred different ways, but I don’t think I’ve ever gotten this far with a plan before.

Second, the photo is beautiful — it really is, isn’t it? At least that’s what I thought. The guys in it were strangers to me. Well, they were strangers at the moment I took the shot. After taking it, I walked up to them, showed the picture, sent it to one on Instagram and the other on WhatsApp, we chatted a bit — and now we sort of know each other. This skill of spontaneous small social connections… I used to think it belonged only to some superhumans from alternate universes. And suddenly here I am — doing exactly that, just talking to people because it felt like I had a reason to say hi.

It’s a funny thing, really — the power of habit. You can force yourself to do something once, twice, ten times — and then one day, on the hundredth try, you suddenly notice you’re doing it automatically.
