The difference between a company with good management and bad management is staggering:
- in a company with bad management I had 4 hours of calls during my first week, 3 of which I scheduled myself — my manager (leading a team of 5 people) simply didn’t have time to onboard me, explain the processes or introduce me to anyone
- in a company with good management I had 4.5 hours of calls on my first day, 4 of them with the CEO, 2 of those one‑on‑one (company size: ~100 people). The other 2 were me sitting “like a fly on the wall” on important calls (to be fair, had I started on another day of the week, those calls wouldn’t have happened)
Usually everyone wants to cut down on the number of meetings. But when it comes to onboarding, this many calls is a huge plus.
